Susete’s connection with wine began as a small child; one of her fondest memories is harvest day at her grandparents’ tiny farm. Though too young to work in the harvest, she distinctly remembers the smell and taste of those grapes, as well as the joy involved in picking the grapes and making the wine. Years later, while studying Microbiology in Porto, those childhood memories were rekindled and blossomed into a new-found curiosity for the fermentation process and learning about wines. The hands-on experience of a harvest internship reinforced Susete’s passion for wines and desire to work in this industry. After a post-graduate course in Oenology and Viticulture, she spent several years deepening her knowledge at a wide range of vineyards and wineries, from basic to high end, in France, Germany and Italy. She began her PhD in in Viticulture in South Africa before returning to Portugal. After stints at a few other renowned Douro wineries, she came to Kranemann Wine Estates to take on the challenge of developing fresh new wines for the company.
