The Soil: The Essence of Our Wines

Mar 28th 25

At the Quinta do Convento de São Pedro das Águias, in the Távora Valley, the soil is much more than a support for the vines - it's part of the soul of our wines.

The property is located in a transition zone from schist to granite and has a unique combination of these two types of soil, enriched by a vein of white quartz that runs through it. This geological diversity directly influences the profile of the wines, giving them complexity, minerality, and a unique character.

The poor soil challenges the vines to deepen their roots, resulting in grapes of great concentration and complexity. The schist helps retain heat, promoting balanced maturation, while the granite reinforces the wines' freshness and minerality. With its unique presence, white quartz adds a touch of purity and refinement, reflected in our wines' vibrant structure and elegance.

This very special soil is the basis of the authenticity we seek in each bottle, mirroring the Távora Valley's identity and our estate's unique heritage.
